Trying to understand the way of life as a Luna devotee can be difficult, but rest assured, we can explain the most important details here. The ideas we live by are mostly simple. The most important thing I will highlight is the fact that this is a sisterhood And Brotherhood - we are a group of moon children, but we are not entirely exclusive. Anyone with feminine and masculine energy can qualify - we are accepting of all kinds of individuals. The ideology behind this stems from Artemis and her huntresses. Virgin women, in tradition, devoted themselves to Artemis and she became their protector and patron.
Luna is the embodiment of all feminine Moon goddesses - her name is Selene, Artemis, Hecate, Isis, Diana, and there are other lesser names that she goes by. We value all incarnations of Luna, so I will briefly try to summarize some of those values that she portrays.
Luna represents the subconscious and the unseen. In the tarot, this is the meaning behind the Moon card. As a devotee of Luna, you are expected to search for hidden meaning within yourself and the world around you. Know that you harbor knowledge much deeper than you are conscious of, and seek to bring that understanding to yourself. Inquisitive traits are encouraged and valued in our community, and we also encourage the sharing and teaching of knowledge, as this is what the Hecate incarnation of Luna embodies.
Multiple incarnations of Luna have associations with the afterlife - Hecate was the goddess of ghosts and necromancy, and Isis was an assistant to the dead in the Egyptian afterlife. We value the souls of the deceased and it is important to respect and understand the dearly departed. We encourage followers to work with spirits and honor them in traditions like Samhain, but we will not necessarily enforce this. Respect for the dead will, however, be strictly enforced.
Luna, most importantly, represents the mother archetype. She is our mother and divine creator, and reminds us that destruction is only one half of mankind. Creativity in any form is strongly encouraged. Artists, composers, writers, dancers, and anyone that can creatively express themselves are embodying the creativity of the Mother Goddess.
Luna not only embodies creativity, but rebirth. The waxing and waning of the moon shows us an ongoing, cosmic cycle. Life, death, life, death. Destruction, creation. It will occur over and over again. When we die, we are reborn anew - we are to be mindful of the natural cycle of existence, and we must remember and give thanks to Luna for our new beginnings.
